Fair Days

This was the "petting zoo" which was basically a collection of goats that kids were feeding with little cups of grains that they purchased at the entrance...or with the fruit leather that they were sucking on 2 minutes earlier.

These guys on stilts were pretty cool.

In case you can't read the labels, this was a shop that sold an assortment of everything fried (a.k.a. fair food). They had fried Snickers, Twinkies, Moon Pies, Oreos, cheesecake, etc. etc.

Yes, we ate that stuff- Oreos and Snickers. I'm not going to lie- they were good. Were they worth $4 good? Probably not.

I remember growing up in Griffin, GA, having to work the corn dog booth at our county fair for the Kiwanis Club. I always loved that time of year, not to mention endless free corn dogs (sounds gross, I know, but trust me, these were gooooood). Back then, at least in Griffin, the fair was considered cool and I have some good memories of hanging out with friends and riding the rides. Random side note: You know have you have songs associated with certain events in your life?? Well, the fair in my mind will always be associated with "Crossroads" by Bones, Thugs, and Harmony. Random. Anyway, so for the past 2 years here in Albuquerque, we have made a few appearances at the fair with one appearance at the fair rodeo (which I will proudly admit, I love). So, this past fair was no exception and we lived it up with some friends.

Looks awesome. Still have yet to sample the fried fair fare. Would love a fried twinkie or snickers, dang it.

I have a secret dream, by the way, of going to different fairs with a few of my kids selling some awful confection (at the moment, I think it will be chocolate dipped rice puff balls) from a home-made booth to fund some vacation or some such family project. I'm jealous you go to do that.

I don't get the fried thing, so is there like a batter on it, cause that sounds gross?

Anyway, I love that first picture, I can just hear Christian laughing. Oliver is just the cutest little guy.

Looks like fun- Oliver is so cute feeding the goats. His sweet little hands! I bet that goat didn't eat any more of those nasty grains after tasting the fruit leather. And, that song is EXACTLY what I think of when I think of the Griffin fair. Oh, and what I wouldn't give to go back and have a few more corn dogs and nasty old men flirting with me!

So I've never tasted any of the weird fried things (snickers and oreos included) but maybe I'll have to try it one of these days... Anyway, glad you guys had fun!

I think Fairs are a lot of fun too, Rebecca. There's usually a lot of excitement in the air, as well as the feel of fall. I'm so happy you guys get out and about like you do!

That is so funny that you have the fair connected with the "crossroads" song...I'm pretty sure everyone that went to high school around that time has a memory connected with it!!! (c: The fair is always a fun time...
